Pyrenees Stage Run | PSR 2026
RIBES DE FRESER, SPAIN, 29 August 2026
This stage heads from Guils de Cerdanya into Andorra on an alpine route that passes Refugi de Malniu, climbs to Portella d’Engorgs as the high point, then crosses Cabanya d’Esparvers and Coll de l’Illa before dropping through the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley and past Lake Engolasters. The organisers describe it as a challenging stage with long stretches of mountain trail, little vehicle access until late in the day, and a very steep final forest descent where tired legs need care. It stands out for crossing into Andorra on foot and for linking high Pyrenean terrain with a UNESCO-listed…
8 distances from 9 to 38 km, up to 2,404 m of climb.

Stage 1: 26 km, 2270 m of climb, highest point 2580 m, 29 August 2026.
First stage of the PSR in which we will cross the Capçaleres del Ter i Freser Natural Park. A stage in which we will touch different terrains and that is by no means a warm-up stage…
The first 6km take us to Pardines following easy paths and forestry roads. From Pardines, the path becomes more and more vertical until the first food station (9.2km) where we will face a hiking trail into the woods that will suddenly open up to contemplate the long climb to the peak of Balandrau (2585m; 15km), from where you will have a spectacular panoramic view.
At Coll de Tres Pics we will find the second food station (16.1km) and after an intense downhill we’ll face the ascent to Collada de Torreneules, following some rocky paths at more than 2000m altitude but without any major complications. The final descent follows the same terrain, with beautiful views up to the Sanctuary of Núria, the finish line of this 1st stage.

Stage 2: 34 km, 1581 m of climb, highest point 2908 m, 30 August 2026.
Stage with two well-differentiated parts: first through a route at high altitude, open and exposed, and at the end through easy paths in the middle of the forest and very protected.
We start along an entertaining and leg-breaking path to the first food station in Fontalba (5.3km), from here we’ll face about 15km through high mountain terrain with stony but well-marked trails and without any technical difficulty. We reach the highest peak in the area and the top of the PSR, Puigmal at 2911m (9.8km) and descend along a single trail to the second food station at Pas dels Lladres (13.5km). From here we follow a wide and stony ridge, between broken trail roads and paths to gradually lose height and begin to enter the forest until we reach Collada de Toses (third and last food station; 23.5km). From here to the finish line, we face the easiest part of the stage to follow on well-marked forestry roads and paths the ski resort of Masella.

Stage 3: 38 km, 1997 m of climb, highest point 2678 m, 31 August 2026.
Stage 4: 9 km, 1277 m of climb, highest point 2510 m, 1 September 2026.
To celebrate the event’s 10th edition, PSR adds a special Vertical KM stage starting in Encamp. It is an explosive uphill-only day designed as an intense challenge rather than a typical long alpine traverse. Within the wider PSR atmosphere, it offers a festive break in the week while still demanding strong climbing legs and mountain-racing effort.
-
Stage 5: 22 km, 2125 m of climb, highest point 2731 m, 2 September 2026.
This stage runs from Encamp to Arinsal through Andorra’s high mountains, starting with a steep climb to Coll d’Ordino before crossing the Ordino-Segudet area and reaching Arans. From there the route tackles a final major climb to Coll de les Cases before descending to the finish in Arinsal. Although it is one of the shorter days, the organiser describes it as a stage full of contrasts that captures the essence of Andorra’s high-mountain terrain.
-
Stage 6: 38 km, 2404 m of climb, highest point 2777 m, 3 September 2026.
This stage starts in the Valls del Comapedrosa Natural Park, climbs to the Comapedrosa Refuge, and then crosses rocky alpine terrain to Portella de Baiau before dropping past Baiau lake into the Alt Pirineu Natural Park. It is the longest stage of the 2026 race and combines a spectacular technical descent with a later vertical-kilometre climb from Àreu to Coll de Tudela, so it demands strong climbing legs and durable descending skills. The final kilometres ease off on smoother trail into Ribera de Cardós, but the day still has the feel of a serious high-mountain crossing between Andorra and…
-
Stage 7: 26 km, 1606 m of climb, highest point 2643 m, 4 September 2026.
Stage 7 starts in Tavascan and climbs to Pleta del Prat, the Tavascan ski resort, where the first food station is located at 6 km. The route then gains altitude through higher mountain terrain with limited technical difficulty before descending toward Collada dels Tres Estanys, where runners may need to use their hands briefly in places. It continues down to Pont de Graus, the second and last food station at 15 km. The final section trends downhill on forestry roads and paths through Cerbi, Unarre, and Escalarre before finishing in Esterri d’Àneu, including a small uphill roughly 2 km before…
-
Stage 8: 32 km, 2136 m of climb, highest point 2712 m, 5 September 2026.
The final stage runs from Esterri d’Àneu to Salardú through the high mountains of the Val d’Aran, finishing the crossing of the Pyrenees with a route that stays true to the event’s alpine character. As the closing day of an eight-stage journey, it asks runners to manage accumulated fatigue while still handling mountainous terrain, long climbs and technical trail sections. It carries the atmosphere of a point-to-point expedition, ending in Salardú where the overall race concludes after traversing the range from east to west.
