Churfirsten Trail Run 2027
Unterwasser, Switzerland, 29 August 2027
Starting in Unterwasser, this course climbs past Munzenriet and Oberdorf to Gamserrugg, then reaches its high point on the Chäserrugg before traversing a long plateau along the Churfirsten and looping up again near Selun. It is the most demanding route of the event and the organiser explicitly says it places high physical and mental demands on runners in alpine terrain where weather can add serious objective risk. The route returns via Selamatt to Unterwasser and is the event’s marathon-distance mountain course built around the Churfirsten ridge experience.
3 distances from 13 to 42 km, up to 2,722 m of climb.

24 km: 24 km, 1151 m of climb, highest point 1675 m, 29 August 2027.
From Unterwasser, this route heads via Oberdorf to Stöfeli, passes the Schwendisee and then continues along the foot of the Churfirsten as far as the Brisi before looping back through Selamatt and Alt St. Johann. It is a mountain trail with sustained climbing and exposed alpine weather considerations, but it is clearly shorter and less committing than the marathon course. The course is shaped around panoramic running beneath the Churfirsten ridge and finishes back in Unterwasser.

13 km: 13 km, 528 m of climb, highest point 1343 m, 29 August 2027.
This route starts in Unterwasser, climbs through Munzenriet and Oberdorf, then rolls towards the Schwendisee before following the Klangweg where sound sculptures line the trail. A final climb over Dunkelboden leads to Iltios before a downhill run brings you back to Unterwasser. It is the most approachable mountain trail of the main adult races, but still gives runners a clear taste of climbing, trail footing and the area’s alpine setting.
